Working in the profession we do, the Conroy-Tully Walker team encounters people every day who are coping with grief and dealing with some of the hardest moments of their lives. Through our work at the funeral home, we are always striving to be compassionate, help people find comfort and just simply be there for the families we serve. Knowing that people often need a helping hand during times of grief is a reason we all chose this profession, and we are all committed to helping out and lifting people up in the wider community as well.
Greater Portland is an incredible place. It is a tight-knit community with the offerings of a larger city. Many families go back generations in the area. It is the kind of city where everyone seems to know each other. When we collect donations, hold an event for law enforcement officers or ask for any kind of help in giving back to the community, we are always amazed at how the people of this area eager to pitch in.
Events like our school supply drive and holiday food drive would not be successful without the support of the Greater Portland community. We are so grateful for your assistance as we provide help to those in need.
Every year, we also host an event to recognize and provide some relaxation for the people with some of the most stressful, yet most important jobs, in our community - our first responders. These people put their lives on the line for us every day, dealing with scenes most of us can’t imagine seeing or being in the middle of. We believe it’s important to not only honor them but also give them a chance to unwind, perhaps find some joy in an otherwise very demanding job.
That’s why we host a picnic for them each year. It’s a small gesture, but it gives them a chance to relax and it gives us a chance to get to know them better. The better we know this community and the people in it, the better we are able to help the families we work with.
We make every effort to work with other organizations as well to help people in the community who may be grieving. Adam Walker has served on the board of The Center For Grieving Children, and we also coordinate with local churches on events such as our candlelight service.
The candlelight service is held during the holidays and is an opportunity for anyone, of any religion, who may be grieving to remember their loved ones during what is often a difficult time. On Memorial Day, we honor and remember those who have served and sacrificed all for our nation with a Mass at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
We love this community, and we hope that our work to support it helps lift people up. There is a lot of worry in the world, and if we can help make even one person’s day a little brighter, every bit of work is worth it.
